Dave Herbel provides leadership, vision, strategic direction and policy development to the Association and the Board of Directors. As a registered lobbyist he also advocates with the legislature and Administration on issues impacting long term care. Mr. Herbel’s 24-year career in healthcare administration encompasses leadership positions in nearly all venues, including hospital, long term care and assisted living administration as well as consulting. In 2006, David was awarded the Public Service Award by the Michigan Chapter of American College of Health Care Administrators. His current appointments include the Michigan Affordable Housing Community Plan Executive Task Force, the Michigan Housing and Community Development Fund Campaign Task Force, the MIOSHA Ergonomics Standard Advisory Committee, AAHSA’s Survey and Compliance and Quality First Task Forces and the Medical Care Advisory Council.

Sharon Kurmaniak joined MAHSA in December 2007. Sharon is responsible for creating an education curriculum plan for MAHSA for the next five years and beginning the implementation of this curriculum according to an established priority. Sharon comes to MAHSA from the training field where she worked with such health systems as University of Michigan Healthcare System in Ann Arbor, Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, Trinity Health System in Farmington Hills and the World Health Organization in Geneva Switzerland. She is familiar with the development of instructor-led, self-paced, computer-based and web-based training as well as additional training presentation techniques that promote learning. With a degree in Instructional Design from Wayne State University she has 10 years of experience in the development of educational programs that promote performance improvement while respecting the diversity of various health care audiences.

Deanna Ludlow Mitchell

Deanna Mitchell joined MAHSA in September 2006. Deanna has over 34 years experience in health care, with a focus on chronic care, long term care, utilization and quality. She holds a Bachelor of Nursing degree from the University of Toledo, post-graduate work in gerontological nursing at the Medical College of Ohio, and a Master of Science in Business degree (focusing on quality and operations) from Madonna University. Most recently, she was the Director of LTC Program Development for the Office of Long Term Care Supports and Services within the Michigan Department of Community Health. Most of the MAHSA membership will remember Deanna as she had a leadership role in developing the Single Points of Entry request for proposals and the Michigan Level of Care tool.

Karlene Ketola joined MAHSA in July 1996. In January 2004, she was promoted to the position of Vice President of Member Services. Karlene is responsible for professional development, member communications and member services. She assists with the planning and coordinating of the MAHSA Annual Conference and Trade Show. She is also editor of member updates, The Latest Wrinkle, MAHSA’s bi-monthly newsletter and membership directory. Her other responsibilities include assessing member satisfaction, developing MAHSA website content coordinating Quality First activities, managing task forces and the human resources network. She also serves on AAHSA’s Quality First, professional development, membership and public relations networks. Karlene received her bachelor’s degree in business from Ferris State University and a master’s degree in health services administration from Central Michigan University.

Kim Ringlever joined MAHSA in January 2007. She has worked actively at the Capitol since 1995 in various positions, including the House Republican Communications office where she served as a communications specialist. She was an integral part of State Sen. and Majority Leader Dan DeGrow’s staff, starting as a communications assistant in 1997 to her most recent position as legislative director. Kim received a bachelor of arts degree in journalism with a concentration in political science from Michigan State University.

Jim Greenhoe joined MAHSA in February 2005 and is responsible for bringing value to members through the association’s Shared Services Program. In addition to developing value-added agreements with endorsed vendors, he keeps members up-to-date on where they can find savings and services in pharmacy, rehab, group purchasing and much more. Jim brings to MAHSA more than 20 years of marketing, advertising and broadcasting experience. Jim received his bachelor’s degree in broadcasting with an emphasis in business administration from Central Michigan University.

Katie Kiter joined MAHSA in October 2005. Her responsibilities include planning and executing various educational programs, as well as coordinating the MAHSA Annual Conference. Katie also helps produce member communications and assess member value and satisfaction. Prior to joining MAHSA, Katie worked for the Michigan Association of Broadcasters as a meetings and events specialist. Katie received her bachelor of arts degree in communications with a concentration in public relations from Michigan State University.

Donna Timm joined MAHSA in September 1997. She brings to the Association 12 years of healthcare experience and nine years in association management. She is responsible for reviewing House and Senate committee activities, tracking legislation, preparing the MAHSA Legislative Update and planning the logistics of MAHSA’s advocacy and regulatory initiatives. Prior to joining MAHSA, she acquired a variety of job skills and knowledge through various positions at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, AirClean Systems, the Michigan Chamber of Commerce, Phillip Morris, BOC and Wyeth Ayerst. Donna attended Central Michigan University.

Judy Sigelko has been employed with MAHSA since January 1995. Her responsibilities include administrative support for MAHSA's Board of Directors and MAHSA’s shared services program. Judy also participates in the preparation and completion of special projects as assigned. Prior to joining MAHSA, Judy worked for the Michigan State Senate as Committee Clerk for the Senate Health & Education Committee. She also worked as a Staff Assistant for Congressman Paul Henry for a number of years. Judy received her bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University.
